Curves without compromise: designing with flexible and angled LED
Concave, convex, wrapped — curved LED surfaces turn walls into environments. What architects need to know before the first drawing.
Two ways to curve a screen
Rigid cabinets with locking angle positions (typically ±10° to ±30° between neighbours) build faceted curves that read as smooth from viewing distance. Flexible modules bend continuously for tight radii, columns and organic forms. Most large installations combine both.
Radius drives everything
A 500 mm cabinet at 10° increments produces a radius of about 2.9 m; at 30°, about 1 m. Tighter radii need smaller cabinets or flexible product. Decide the radius early — it determines the product, the structure and the content pipeline.
Content for a curve is authored in the space, not on a flat timeline.
Structure and service
Curved walls change load paths. Hanging systems need adjustable rigging; ground-stacked builds need footing engineered for the arc. Rear service access is often the only practical option on concave walls; plan a maintenance corridor.
